Think About It: Let the Thinking Begin
Think About It: Let the Thinking Begin!
by Amy Leask Illustrated by Mark Hughes
Think About It: Let the Thinking Begin is an educational but fun book. This is one in a series of books encouraging children to think and consider different types of philosophy. They are illustrated and the reader is led through the book by a girl named Sophia.
Sophia goes discusses the history of philosophy and some of the major players within the field of philosophy, including Socrates and Kierkegaard. The book proposes several questions we might consider. For example, “Is it ever okay to be selfish?” The book concludes by encouraging readers to come up with their own questions and consider many different answers.
Although it is a BIG topic, it is written in a funny and entertaining way. The book encourages discussions not contention. It mentions several times we need to listen and respect the opinions of others, as well as consider these deep questions ourselves.
You can check out Sophia and her books at their website www.kidsthinkaboutit.com. These philosophy books are really appropriate for children between 7-10 years old as the subject matter is beyond the grasp of most little readers.
